TACLOBAN CITY — DPWH is making progress on major road and bridge projects in Samar provinces to enhance regional connectivity.
Congressman Marcelino “Nonoy” Libanan met with DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon and regional officials in Tacloban City on March 10 to discuss updates on key infrastructure initiatives in Eastern Visayas.
The Maydolong, Eastern Samar-Basey, Samar Road Project is nearing completion, with only about eight kilometers left to finish.
Secretary Dizon reaffirmed the department’s commitment to completing ongoing connectivity projects in the region within the year.
The proposed Sorsogon-Northern Samar Link Bridge is undergoing a P130-million feasibility study scheduled for completion this year to strengthen inter-island connectivity between the Bicol Region and Eastern Visayas.
A feasibility study is also planned for 2027 for a proposed bridge linking Southern Leyte and Surigao to enhance transportation links between the The Visayas and Mindanao.
These infrastructure initiatives are crucial for regional development, as improved roads and bridges will boost mobility, stimulate economic activity, and support long-term growth in Samar and nearby provinces.
