TACLOBAN CITY — Filipino boxing sensation Mark Magsayo made a powerful statement in his lightweight debut, securing a fifth-round technical knockout victory over Ireland’s Feargal McCrory as McCrory’s corner threw in the towel on the morning of April 6, at the Meta Apex in Las Vegas.
Competing at 135 pounds for the first time, Magsayo wasted no time displaying his enhanced skills. He controlled the tempo of the fight from the start with precise combinations, sharp counters, and composed footwork, showcasing his development and maturity in the ring.
Despite McCrory’s reputation for toughness and relentless pressure, Magsayo’s accuracy and power proved to be the difference as he consistently landed clean, punishing shots. As the fight progressed, the Filipino fighter continued to dominate, visibly wearing down his opponent with each passing round.
The turning point came in the fifth round when Magsayo unleashed a flurry of devastating combinations that overwhelmed McCrory, prompting his corner to stop the fight and secure a convincing TKO victory for Magsayo.
This impressive win signals a strong beginning for Magsayo in the competitive lightweight division, demonstrating his ability to carry his power effectively at the new weight class. It also reaffirms his status as a legitimate contender with a renewed sense of momentum.
Following the bout, Magsayo expressed his readiness for bigger challenges in the lightweight division, stating, “This is just the start for me at lightweight. I feel stronger and I’m prepared for tougher opponents.”
With his dominant performance, Magsayo has issued a clear warning to the 135-pound weight class: a formidable new contender has emerged, and he is eager to face the division’s elite competition.
