CAN-AVID, Eastern Samar — A major leap forward in local environmental management was achieved on April 8 at the Municipal Grounds, where officials led a ceremony to turn over ten three-wheeled garbage collection vehicles to ten recipient barangays across Can-avid.
The initiative, funded through the Local Government Unit’s 20% Community Development Fund (CDF), stands as a clear demonstration of collaborative leadership and shared goals among the municipality’s officials and residents.
More than just equipment for waste collection, the vehicles symbolize Can-avid’s steadfast commitment to building a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable community for all.
Municipal Mayor Hon. Alicia Teves spearheaded the turnover ceremony, emphasizing the power of collective action in driving progress. “Unity is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results,” she stated during her address. By providing these vehicles directly to barangay-level teams, the local government aims to empower communities to lead their own efforts in efficient waste management at the grassroots.
Addressing barangays not included in this first batch, Mayor Teves offered reassurance: “To other barangays, do not worry—no one is left behind. This is just the beginning. While we start with these ten units today, we are already working towards the next phase to ensure every community is equipped.”
The project exemplifies how public resources are being put to work for the people, transforming tax contributions into practical tools that serve the entire municipality and advance Can-avid’s vision for long-term environmental sustainability.
