CATBALOGAN CITY — A JM Liner bus traveling from Eastern Samar experienced brake failure while approaching Catbalogan City at approximately 10:00 a.m. on May 23, 2026.
Witnesses aboard the bus reported that it suddenly gained speed as it approached the intersection of Barangay Socorro and the Diversion Road in Catbalogan while descending towards the city center.
The bus proceeded towards Catbalogan City Hall and eventually veered onto Del Rosario Street, colliding with a thrift shop (ukay-ukay) and several adjacent properties, resulting in damage and multiple injuries.
The majority of passengers and pedestrians affected by the incident were promptly transported to Samar Provincial Hospital for urgent medical attention.
Local authorities in Catbalogan are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.
