VILLABA, Leyte – What began as a normal Saturday night at a restobar in Villaba ended in alarm after a man allegedly fired a handgun inside the establishment, prompting a swift police response that led to his arrest.

The incident occurred on the night of July 4 at the View Deck Restobar in Barangay Poblacion del Norte.

Police identified the suspect only by the alias “Junetwenty,” a 20-year-old watchman and resident of Villaba.

According to the Villaba Municipal Police Station (MPS), the owner of the restobar called authorities after the suspect allegedly pulled a handgun from his waistband, entered the restroom, and fired a shot.

Responding officers immediately proceeded to the establishment and intercepted the suspect as he was leaving the premises and about to board a motorcycle.

Police said they recovered a .45-caliber pistol tucked into the suspect’s waistband before placing him under arrest.

Authorities also seized a black holster, a magazine loaded with seven live rounds of ammunition, and one live round in the firearm’s chamber.

During questioning, the suspect was allegedly unable to present a license or permit to possess the firearm.

The recovered weapon has been submitted to the Regional Forensic Unit 8 for ballistic examination and verification.

The suspect is currently being held at the Villaba Municipal Police Station while investigators prepare charges for alleged violation of Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act of 2013.

Police are also investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged discharge of the firearm inside the establishment and whether additional charges may be filed.

As in all criminal cases, the suspect is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt by a court of law.
