50 Motorcyles to Help Eastern Visayas Cops Respond Faster

Palo, Leyte — Police units in Eastern Visayas received 50 motorcycles on August 12 to help them get to incidents faster, especially in tourist spots, crowded roads and areas that are difficult to reach by patrol cars.

Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Juanito Victor “Jonvic” Remulla led the turnover of the motorcycles to eight police offices under the Police Regional Office-Eastern Visayas.

Leyte Police and Tacloban City Police each received eight motorcycles. Southern Leyte Police received nine, while Biliran, Ormoc City, Samar, Eastern Samar and Northern Samar police offices each received five.

The motorcycles will be used by Tourist Police Units assigned to tourist destinations and other areas where police presence is needed.

Remulla said the DILG will continue to provide equipment to the Philippine National Police (PNP) to help officers move around and carry out their work.

“I’m very proud of the PNP. For the very first time in your history, you have achieved the highest performance ranking and have become one of the most trusted agencies in the Philippines,” Remulla said during the turnover.

“We will not stop providing you with equipment so that you can further improve your mobility and perform your duties even better,” he added.

The motorcycles will be useful in places where traffic is heavy or roads are too narrow for patrol cars. Police officers using motorcycles can also reach tourist areas and other locations more easily.

The distribution is part of the DILG’s nationwide rollout of motorcycles and emergency response vehicles for the PNP under the Unified Emergency Services System.

Leyte Governor Carlos Jericho “Icot” Petilla thanked the DILG for the assistance and said the provincial government would continue supporting efforts to maintain peace and order.

“We are grateful for the assistance you have provided. This is a big help to us,” Petilla said.

The 50 motorcycles are expected to give police units in Eastern Visayas more options when responding to calls and patrolling tourist destinations and other areas.
