Marcos Inspects Walang Gutom Kitchen in Catbalogan

Catbalogan City — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. inspected the Walang Gutom Kitchen in Catbalogan City on Sept. 25 as part of the government’s efforts to check the delivery of food assistance to beneficiaries.

Marcos arrived at the facility between 11 and 11:30 a.m. He was accompanied by Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian, Samar Gov. Sharee Ann Tan, Catbalogan City Mayor Dexter Uy and other local officials.

The Walang Gutom Kitchen is a DSWD program that provides meals to beneficiaries as part of the government’s efforts to address hunger and food insecurity.

During his visit, Marcos checked the kitchen’s operations, including the preparation and distribution of food to beneficiaries.

Catbalogan, the capital of Samar province, is a coastal city facing Maqueda Bay and serves as a government and commercial center for the province. It had a population of 108,153 in the 2024 census, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority.

Samar, one of the six provinces of Eastern Visayas, had 806,179 residents in 2024. It is the second most populous province in the region after Leyte and includes Catbalogan and Calbayog cities and 24 municipalities.

The President’s visit came as the government continued its food assistance programs for families facing food shortages.

Before proceeding to Catbalogan, Marcos visited Guiuan in Eastern Samar, where he inspected the newly completed Felipe Abrigo Memorial Hospital and its transitional hospital.

The hospital visit was part of his inspection of government health services for residents in the area.

His visits to Guiuan and Catbalogan brought attention to two basic needs in Eastern Visayas access to healthcare and food assistance.
