Calbayog City — Student marching bands from across Eastern Visayas will take center stage on October 20 as Banda Rayhak 2026 brings a regional interschool competition to RTR Plaza in Tacloban City.
The competition will start at 1 p.m., coinciding with the commemoration of the 82nd anniversary of the Leyte Landings, a major event in Philippine history during World War II.
Calbayog City Vice Mayor Rex Daguman has expressed support for the event after meeting with its organizers, who paid him a courtesy visit to present their plans for this year’s competition.
Daguman welcomed the initiative, saying it would give student musicians a chance to showcase their talent, discipline and pride in their respective schools while celebrating the region’s history.
He also thanked the organizers for bringing the project to his attention and voiced his support for an event that combines music, history and regional pride.
The competition is expected to bring together student performers from different schools, giving them a chance to display their musical skills and marching routines before an audience in Tacloban.
Beyond the competition, the event will take place on a significant date for Eastern Visayas.
On October 20, 1944, Gen. Douglas MacArthur and Allied forces landed in Leyte as part of the campaign to liberate the Philippines from Japanese occupation. The anniversary remains an important occasion for remembering the region’s role in the country’s wartime history.
Through Banda Rayhak 2026, organizers hope to make the commemoration more meaningful by bringing student musicians together in a celebration of talent, school spirit and shared history.
The competition is scheduled for 1 p.m. on October 20 at RTR Plaza in Tacloban City.
