ABUYOG, Leyte — Abuyog was full of color and excitement on December 3, 2025, for its Second Annual Christmas Parade of Lights. Despite a bit of drizzle, numerous locals and visitors came to witness the event proving that a little rain couldn’t dampen the community’s spirit.
What began last year as just another holiday event has now become an eagerly anticipated tradition. This year’s parade was larger and more spectacular, conveying a message of hope, unity and peace. Many commented that it was twice as enjoyable, with participants ranging from young children to grandparents immersing themselves in the festive atmosphere.
Twelve groups participated, competing in school, local/national agency and local government unit categories. They dedicated months to creating their floats and costumes, transforming them into vibrant, luminous works of art. Children strained to see everything, parents smiled beneath umbrellas, and elder residents watched with a sense of pride.
The highlight of the evening was the illumination of the town’s grand Christmas tree. The crowd fell silent as the brilliant tree illuminated the plaza- a light of hope for the holiday season, according to some.
Following this, a lively program culminated in a 15-minute fireworks display that illuminated the night sky, heralding the start of Christmas in Abuyog. Attendees traveled from various locations, including nearby towns, to partake in the festivities. Many expressed that it served as a reminder of the importance of coming together and wishing for peace and unity.
Mayor Lemuel Gin Traya expressed his primary goal for this Christmas season is to bring joy to everyone. He was grateful to witness the town abuzz with activity and families and visitors thoroughly enjoying themselves.
In the competition, 1st West District emerged victorious in the School category. Abuyog Community College won the Local and National Agency category, while Team D won the LGU category. Other groups like the 4th North District, BuCor, and Team C also received recognition for placing fourth in their respective categories.
The parade once again demonstrated that Abuyog shines not only with bright lights but also with unity, hope and a collective desire for peaceful Christmas.
