CAN-AVID, Eastern Samar — Mayor Alicia L. Teves led the turnover and inauguration of the new ALT Building at Eastern Samar State University (ESSU) Can-avid Campus on March 25, 2026. The facility represents a significant infrastructure addition to the campus and reflects the local government’s ongoing support for the municipality’s educational sector.
The two-story structure, named after Mayor Teves, was funded entirely through her personal finances. This facility is intended to support the students and academic community of ESSU-Can-avid.
“Tunay itong patunay na ang liderato ay hindi lamang sa salita, kundi sa gawa at sakripisyo para sa kapakanan ng kabataan,” shared one faculty member during the ceremony, emphasizing how the project reflects the kind of leadership that puts people first.
Governor Ralph Vincent “RV” Evardone joined Mayor Teves to mark the occasion, which both officials described as a joint effort to advance educational opportunities for residents of Eastern Samar.
The event also marked the turn-over of completed provincial government projects – initiatives first launched under former Governor Ben P. Evardone and carried forward by the current administration. This continuity underscores the province’s unified commitment to progress, with leaders working across terms to deliver service to the people.
“From the provincial government to local leaders like Mayor Teves, we share a common vision – to build a brighter, more stable future for every Can-avidnon,” Governor Evardone stated during his address. “Projects like this ALT Building show that when leaders put education and community first, we create lasting legacies that benefit generations to come.”
The ALT Building provides additional classrooms and learning facilities to accommodate the increasing student population at ESSU-Can-avid. The expansion is intended to support the academic requirements of both students and educators.
The completion of the project is described by officials as a step toward regional development, highlighted by the collaboration between leaders and the use of personal investment for public infrastructure.
