VILLABA, Leyte — A 60-year-old woman was rushed to the hospital after being hacked by her brother-in-law during an argument in Barangay Villaba at around 9 a.m.
The victim, identified as “Rose,” is a resident of the area, while the suspect, “Lino,” 63, also lives in the same barangay.
Police said the two are related by marriage and had a long-running dispute involving land and property.
According to Police Captain Realthur Tabernero of the Villaba Municipal Police Station, the incident started when the two crossed paths while the suspect was tending to his animals. The situation escalated after the victim reportedly confronted him about his livestock, which she feared might damage her crops.
The argument quickly turned violent, and the suspect allegedly grabbed a machete and struck the victim.
Bleeding from a head wound, the victim managed to go to the police station right after the incident before she was brought to the hospital. She is now in stable condition.
The suspect later went to the police and surrendered.
Police are preparing a charge of frustrated murder as they continue to look into the case, which they say stemmed from a long-standing family dispute.
