From Campaign Pledge to Reality: Mayor Alicia Teves Brings Hope to Can-Avid’s Students Through Aral-Alalay Scholarship

CAN-AVID, Eastern Samar — The morning sun streams through the windows of the municipal hall as a line of young faces fills the room—students carrying their report cards, enrollment forms, and dreams of building better lives through education. On this day, July 2, the local government of Can-avid marks a milestone with the successful payout of the first batch of the Aral-Alalay Scholarship Program for Academic Year 2026–2027. A total of 784 out of 1,000 selected beneficiaries received ₱1,500 each, with working teams from the municipal government, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), and Municipal Treasurer’s Office (MTO) ensuring smooth and orderly distribution. The remaining beneficiaries will be scheduled for the next payout, with announcements to be posted through official municipal channels.

The Aral-Alalay Scholarship is not just another financial aid program. It was born from Mayor Teves’ deep-seated belief that education is the most valuable investment a community can make in its youth. During her campaign, she listened to families struggling to keep their children in school, to students working part-time jobs just to pay for supplies, and to young people who feared their dreams were out of reach.
