TACLOBAN CITY — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office VIII brought early Christmas cheer to hundreds of children and women staying in its protective centers during the Balik Sigla, Bigay Saya 2025 nationwide gift-giving activity, held on December 6, 2025.
DSWD Regional Director Grace Subong led the distribution of meals and gift bags in the four Centers and Residential Care Facilities (CRCFs) in Eastern Visayas. These facilities provide temporary shelter and support to vulnerable groups, including abandoned or neglected children, women in difficult situations, victims of violence, and children in conflict with the law or at risk.
The centers that took part in the activity were: Haven for Women, Home for Girls, Reception and Study Center for Children and Regional Rehabilitation Center for the Youth.
Each resident received a gift bag containing a tumbler, lunchbox, and hygiene kit.
Residents expressed gratitude for the support and protection they continue to receive from the DSWD. One resident said, “Masaya ako sa center. Nagpapasalamat ako sa DSWD dahil may nag-aalaga, may nagbabantay, at may nagpoprotekta sa amin.”
DSWD spokesperson Atty. Jonalyndie Chua said the yearly gift-giving is more than just giving presents. She explained that the activity reminds residents that they are valued and cared for, reflecting the agency’s commitment that “every life matters.”
The DSWD said the early Christmas event aims to give hope and comfort to individuals who rely on the centers for safety, especially during difficult times.
