Borongan City, Eastern Samar — Acting City Mayor Emmanuel “Eman” Tiu Sonco led the Borongan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council in an emergency meeting on December 4, 2025, in response to the looming threat of Tropical Depression “Wilma.”
The meeting brought together key city officials, emergency responders, and sectoral representatives to conduct a Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment (PDRA) and coordinate preventive measures aimed at ensuring the safety of residents.
Reports during the assessment indicated that Barangay Siha was already experiencing flooding due to sustained heavy rainfall intensified by the prevailing shear line affecting parts of Eastern Visayas.
Acting Mayor Sonco directed local responders to increase monitoring of vulnerable areas and implement preparedness and evacuation protocols in low-lying barangays where water levels are rising. He emphasized the importance of proactive coordination among emergency teams, barangay officials, and the community to minimize risks and ensure a timely response.
“The City Government is taking all necessary precautions to safeguard our residents. Our teams are on alert, and preventive measures are being implemented immediately,” Acting Mayor Sonco said, assuring the public of the city’s readiness to respond to Tropical Depression “Wilma.”
Borongan City authorities continue to urge residents, particularly those in flood-prone areas, to stay informed, follow evacuation advisories, and cooperate with local responders as the storm system approaches.
