Basey LGU Provides ‘Pamasko’ Educational Assistance to Local Scholars

BASEY, Samar — The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Basey actively supported the education of hundreds of local government scholars by providing educational assistance on December 23, 2025, just two days before Christmas. The LGU made sure that the students had the necessary resources to complete their studies and gave them the assurance that their education would not be interrupted.

The activity took place at the Basey municipal gymnasium, which was temporarily converted into a venue for the distribution. The financial assistance is intended to help cover school allowances and other academic expenses of the students.

Mayor Luz Chu-Ponferrada said the aid served as a “pamasko” or Christmas gift for the scholars, recognizing the financial challenges faced by many students in pursuing higher education. She reaffirmed the LGU’s commitment to supporting the youth so they can achieve their educational goals and personal aspirations.

The distribution was made possible through the coordination of local and national agencies. The Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), headed by Welma Sacres, worked with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to facilitate the funding. The activity was supervised on-site by Local Youth Development Officer Rhoy Avila, who served as the scholar focal person.

Several municipal officials were present to ensure an orderly and transparent process, including HRMO III Ricky Balinao and Sangguniang Kabataan Federation President Aljo Gaw. Oversight and support were also provided by KALAHI-CIDSS lead Amado Colinayo and Municipal Treasurer Evelyn Cabantac.

Mayor Chu-Ponferrada emphasized that education remains a priority of the local government, describing it as a key driver of community development in Basey.

For the beneficiaries, the assistance highlighted the LGU’s continued support as they work toward completing their studies and building their future.
