Burauen, Leyte — A newborn baby girl was found alone at a waiting shed in Barangay Hugpa East, Burauen, Leyte, early Friday morning, July 31, after a resident noticed something unusual while passing by the area.
The 58-year-old resident was riding his motorcycle at around 6 a.m. when he saw an object inside the waiting shed. When he checked, he was surprised to find a newborn baby lying there.
He immediately informed barangay officials about the discovery, who then reported the incident to the Burauen Municipal Police Station (MPS) for proper action.
Responders from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) brought the baby to the Burauen Rural Health Unit, where she was checked by medical personnel and given the care she needed.
The Burauen MPS is now conducting an investigation to identify the baby’s parents and determine who left the infant at the waiting shed.
Authorities continue to remind the public that newborns and children need immediate care and protection, and encouraged anyone with information about the incident to report it to the proper authorities.
