CALBAYOG CITY — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) distributed P5,000 in cash assistance to 1,305 tricycle drivers in the city on April 8 as part of its Cash Relief Assistance (CRA) program.
The distribution took place at the Calbayog City Sports Center to aid transport workers affected by the surge in fuel prices during the ongoing energy crisis.
Calbayog City Mayor Raymund “Monmon” C. Uy expressed appreciation to the DSWD for directly assisting the beneficiaries, emphasizing the importance of the program in supporting tricycle drivers who play a crucial role in serving local communities.
The city government provided logistical and crowd management support to ensure a smooth and transparent distribution process.
The program is being carried out under the guidance of DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian, with approximately 20 personnel on the ground to facilitate the payout.
Edgar Balolot from the City Social Welfare and Development Office mentioned that the distribution was expected to be finished by 5 p.m., with provisions made for possible extensions if necessary.
The DSWD stated that the goal of the initiative is to offer immediate financial relief and assist transport workers in dealing with the escalating operational expenses. –– Rodalyn Silva, Intern/The Vanguard
